The h_da: your university
Did you know?
You can recognise Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences - also known as h_da - from afar. The h_da tower on Schöfferstraße rises above all other roofs and is the tallest building in Darmstadt. Fittingly, with around 13,500 students, the h_da is one of the largest Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. From architecture to reliability engineering, the university educates students in around 70 bachelor's, diploma and master's degree programmes. So there is a lot to study at h_da. By the way: together with seven European partner universities, h_da is working on becoming one of the first European universities under the name EUt+ and you are now part of it and can benefit from it not only in your studies.
The Bachelor's degree is not enough for you?
If you have successfully completed your Bachelor's degree, you can add a Master's programme at h_da. But even with a Master's degree in your pocket, you don't have to stop studying. A doctorate is also possible at h_da. As a Hessian University of Applied Sciences, h_da has its own right to award doctoratesin the fields of "Sustainability Sciences", "Applied Computer Science" and "Social Work". However, preparations are currently underway for its own right to award doctorates in other disciplines. In Addition, there is also the possibility of cooperative doctorates within the framework of corresponding agreements with partner universities in Germany and abroad.
The campus in Darmstadt
h_da has a central main location in Darmstadt and one in Dieburg. In Darmstadt, the campus is largely spread out around the high-rise building on Schöfferstraße and Haardtring. Exceptions are the Department of Social Work in Adelungstraße and the Department of Design, which is appropriately located at the artists' colony Mathildenhöhe.
Right next to the high-rise building you will find the Studierendenhaus, and here the name says it all: Everything in the Studierendenhaus („student house“) should revolve around your concerns. Services and advice will be bundled here under one roof. In addition to the Student Service Centre, the International Office, the central department of university didactics and digitization or the central Examination Office, you will also find a spacious learning centre, bright seminar rooms and the campus restaurant Schöffers with its own terrace. The student house is currently being prepared for occupancy. And then just drop by. Opposite, on the other side of Schöfferstraße, the Central Library and the adjoining Learning Centre await your visit. There you will find around 200 workstations on more than 2,000 square metres, distributed in individual and group rooms as well as in a spacious open work area.
Coffee & Co
Speaking of studying: as we all know, it's not that easy when you're hungry or desperately need a coffee. But the campus also has a lot to offer in this regard: In addition to a canteen in Schöfferstraße, you will find the new campus restaurant Schöffers on the ground floor of the student house, which offers a food court with international cuisine and is even open daily until 8 p.m. from Monday through Friday and until 7 p.m. on Saturdays. And then, of course, there is the Café Glaskasten, run by the h_da's AStA, on the ground floor of the high-rise building.
The Campus in Dieburg
The campus in Dieburg is located about 15 kilometres from Darmstadt and is easily accessible by public transport. The buildings of the former Post/Telekom University of Applied Sciences in Dieburg are home to the Department of Media and part of the Department of Business. The campus in Dieburg also has a library, a canteen and a student café - the "Zeitraum". This is where most of the departments' parties take place and, especially in summer, you can enjoy the sun with a coffee on the benches outside the "Zeitraum".
