The AStA "governs" for you
If the StuPa functions like the state parliament, then the AStA is more or less the government. It represents your interests when you have problems with the student union or the general study situation. The departments of the AStA have different areas of focus and usually know the right people to contact for help or advice.
Concrete help and more
To give you concrete help for your studies, the AStA offers advice on the following topics: BAföG & student finance, social situation, advice for students with disabilities and rights during your studies. The AStA's services also include the RMV-AStA semester ticket, cooperation with four Darmstadt theatres and the State Museum Darmstadt (culture ticket) and the car-sharing provider Book-n-Drive, the issuing of the "International Student ID", free legal advice and much more. Another integral part of the AStA's work is the organisation and support of a wide range of events at the university or in Darmstadt and the surrounding area.
Student Cafés
The AStA runs two student cafés: the "Glaskasten" on the ground floor of the high-rise building in Darmstadt and the "Zeitraum" at the Dieburg location. During normal university hours, students meet there for lunch, to study or just to talk to friends.
