Starting support

All beginnings don't have to be difficult

In order to make it easier for you to start your studies, there are several offers at the university. These not only help you get started but are also useful throughout your studies to build up and expand your knowledge and skills.

Don't miss them! Introductory events in your degree programme

You should not miss the introductory events for your degree programme. Here you will receive all the important information you need to start your studies. So be sure to attend!

Take a note

At the beginning of the winter semester, the digital live broadcast "h_da-PREMIERE" is all about you. The special thing about it: The mammoth project on a professional level is managed by students of the media campus of the h_da in an interdisciplinary teaching project together with the university communication. You can stream the live broadcast and actively participate.

First-year welcome as a live broadcast

The h_da PREMIERE is the digital welcome event for all first-year students - and of course for anyone else who is interested. A real live broadcast, developed and realised together with students and broadcasted to the world as a YouTube stream.

You missed the livestream?

No problem. The show is available on the h_da YouTube channel in German and English.

Ask directly

Do you have a lot of questions and want to talk to experts from the university's service departments, the AStA or the Studierendenwerk before you start your studies? Then take some time after the h_da PREMIERE at the beginning of the winter semester to get help getting started: Here you can discuss everything in peace. h-da.de/starthilfe.

Students teach students

The h_da's student trainer pool is primarily aimed at strengthening students' skills. The special feature of the offer is the peer-to-peer teaching approach: the seminars and events are held by students for students. The student trainers help you prepare for situations that you will encounter again and again during your studies, such as your own time management (no "procrastination") or dealing with software programmes

The seminar programme includes, among other things:

  • Software basics (for example, Office programmes, MatLab, LaTeX),
  • Relaxed presentations,
  • Effective study planning,
  • Scientific work,
  • Successful conversation,
  • Creative idea development,
  • Tutor training,
  • Moderation training.

Additional maths offer

MatheFit is an additional offer of h_da and consists of three components: Maths preliminary course, Maths learning centre and Maths intensive day. The preliminary course serves to make it easier for first-year students to start their studies. The learning centre and the intensive day offer the possibility of support in mathematical subjects beyond the lectures and tutorials. Please note that in the current situation all three modules can only take place online. Further information can be found on the MatheFit-Webseite.

Repeat and refresh school knowledge

Basically, a maths pre-course is offered before each semester in which important knowledge from school is repeated and refreshed. This is a self-study course, which means that the tutors will support you if necessary, but there will be no lessons. The Maths Pre-Course takes place two weeks before the start of lectures in the summer and winter semesters. Registration is required.

Learning centres help you during your studies

To support you in your further studies, the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has set up a Maths Learning Centre with the University Centre for Student Success and Career Start. In regular university operation, tutors support you with questions about lectures, exercises, and homework both on the Darmstadt and Dieburg campuses, but at the moment this is only possible online. You can find more information about the Maths Learning Centres on the MatheFit-Webseite.

Intensive days for exam preparation

To prepare for the exams in the mathematical subjects, there is an intensive maths day during a regular semester on the Darmstadt campus. This offer is currently only available online. All h_da students who would like to spend a whole day preparing for their exams in the mathematics subjects with the support of the tutors can take part. Further information on the dates and the registration link can also be found on the MatheFit-Webseite.
